Brisbane has much to offer, with lots of gorgeous nature backdrops! Brisbane's sunshine and vibrant energy make it a photographer's paradise. But finding the perfect portrait location can take your pictures from average to incredible! Whether you're a seasoned pro or just starting out, I’ll help you find the five hidden gems and classic favourites that will elevate your portrait game!

1. New Farm Park: Urban Oasis with River Charm

New Farm Park, a classic location with lots to choose from! Bonus if its Jacaranda season!
There is a beautiful blend of cityscapes with beautiful natural scenery to be found here, and just by the Brisbane River. I am a nature lover so I took incredible portraits during Jacaranda season with the beautiful purples expanding across the park! Utilise the gorgeous roses as a backdrop or a prop!

There is plenty of walking paths and greenery for a relaxed and natural feel. Don’t miss the fig trees along the riverbank for a touch of whimsical charm!

2. Anstead Reserve: Secluded Tranquility amidst Native Bushland

This is by far my best kept secret. Just a 25 minute drive outside of the CBD you’ll find the most gorgeous bushland and landscape, which turns to a golden paradise in the late afternoon, the perfect backdrop for gorgeous sunlit photos. I love this spot as you have low competition here, its naturally a quiet oasis, so families have the chance to feel relaxed with their kids for a family session. This area is expansive, from open fields, to forest walks, with lots of different photo locations to choose from! This area gets dappled with sunlight filtering through the trees, creating a magical and mystical atmosphere for portraits. If you are looking for something a little bit more off the beaten path, this is a fantastic spot.

3. Mt Coot-tha Botanic Gardens: A Tapestry of Blooms

This is a classic location to take photos, with many different locations to choose from, Mt Coot-tha Botanical Gardens is a photographer's dream, bursting with vibrant flowerbeds, manicured lawns, dappled forests. I love classic locations like this because of the choice you have as a photographer. Choose from a variety of themed gardens, like the enchanting Japanese Garden or the vibrant Fern House, to create a unique backdrop for your portraits. My favourite place is the Japanese gardens!

4. JC Slaughter Falls: Dramatic Water Feature with a Historical Twist

It’s not often JC Slaughter falls is in flow, but regardless it makes for great photos! Situated in the forest, you’ll find gorgeous rocks to have your subject lay on. Perfectly dappled in the most beautiful filtered sunlight, this spot elevates your photos to the next level! If you're looking for a portrait location with a touch of drama, JC Slaughter Falls delivers. If you’re lucky to get the waterfall in full flow it would make a gorgeous scene as well! The nearby heritage-listed J.C. Slaughter Falls precinct adds a touch of historical intrigue to your portraits.

5. Roma Street Parkland: Classic Elegance in the Heart of the City

Another classic location with much choice! For timeless beauty, Roma Street Parkland is a must-visit. I love the diversity in flower beds, not t mention the place is huge! So no doubt about finding a good spot to capture some portraits! The park's Victorian architecture, manicured gardens, and reflecting pools provide a sophisticated backdrop for both formal and casual portraits. Capture the iconic Fig Tree or use the park's many pathways for a more candid feel.

Bonus Tip: Remember, Brisbane's weather can change quickly. Be sure to check the forecast before your shoot and choose your location accordingly. With these five diverse locations and a little planning, you're sure to capture stunning portraits that showcase the beauty of Brisbane.
